DIY PROJECT PT 2

We are back!! The DIY pinterest vibes has levelled up once again. The thing I have come to learn about myself, and especially over the isolation period, (well, I’ve actually known this about myself for a long time but now this has confirmed it all), is that I’m extremely (and I  mean EXTREMELY impulsive). When I get an idea in my head that I’m set on, it’s bloody hard to pull me away from it until I have completed.

As a lot of you would have seen I am heavily into my health and wellness / looking after my mind and body. A couple of pillars that have been consistent the past couple of years to help me with this has been cold water exposure , breathing techniques and mindset. The Wim Hof Method is the most common practice for this. There are crazy benefits to this practice. Another key tool i use which goes hand n hand with my training , is a sauna.

The area around the back of our place was pretty vacant, only used as storage. Turned out to be a great use of space & we are super pumped about the result. The first part of the idea, was to convert a chest freezer into an ice bath. I currently have a plastic bath, and each time we fill that up it costs around $40-50 in ice. So purchasing a chest freezer from 100% Extreme will actually in the long game will save me money. Especially during these times is such a bonus. I did “um” and “ahh” about buying this, but my mental health is extremely important. My thoughts are you can’t put a price on your well being. I am not condoning heavy spending in these times of course, but a saying I like is “you can’t put a price on your wellbeing”, ESPECIALLY in these times.

Now, on the other end of the spectrum from cold water, obviously the hot, which essentially provides you with similar benefits from the cold but at the other end of the scale. By adding these two elements together, it really takes it back the our most natural habitats. The cold, hot air and breathing. A 20 minute sauna at 80 degrees is one of the most relaxing and exherliarting sessions you can do. Follow this with a 5 minute ice bath and BOOM you are on top of the world. Growing up, my parents built a sauna in a vacant room in the house. It was actually a storage cupboard I believe and that’s what started my obsession with feeling good and willingness that intrigued me keeping my mind sharp. Next up was the outdoor shower, using my skills as a plumber, ( yes i am a qualified plumber for anyone that doesn’t know ) i piped up an epic outdoor shower. This was to rinse off before & after the ice bath. I used Buteline pipe & tee’d off our hot water unit close by, to ensure we had both hot / cold supply. The sauna i purchased was off a great man from Austria - Hardy was his name. The Sauna came as a kit set , which was reasonably seem less to set up.

As i have grown up , i have realised the importance to not only look after my physical health but my mental health just as much. These fundimentals i have spoken about i use daily, they a key components in my tool kit that keep my mind & body sharp. So to have this set up in my own backyard is truely a dream, come true. If anything i hope this project will make you aware of what you spend money on whether it temporally benefits your life or for the long term. This space means i can be happy, healthy and be proud of my home & lifestyle. Happy to answer any questions around these topics on how these practices has helped me so much. All the love!!
