After months of renovations on the old girl, our campervan was ready to hit the road…

Rewind 3 months – before a full gut out, niggly little jobs, a few arguments and a few thousand dollars – and you have a 1987 Mitsubishi Dalico Campervan sitting in my Uncle’s driveway. Dani & I decided to buy this ravaged beauty after looking into renting one over summer and seeing just how expensive it was. It was cheaper to buy & do up the old girl we now lovingly call Good Vibrations….

To say she was a testing project would be somewhat of an understatement, but the satisfaction of being able to cruise around for two weeks over summer without a care in the world made ALL the hard work worth it.

We had some epically sunny days and some that were… less than ideal for outdoor activities.  That being said, watching a whole season of Stranger Things on the 12v TV while the cyclone hit the Coromandel hard was an unforgettable experience on its own.

In terms of the reno – well, where do I start… we completely stripped out the “living” area, built a double bed, created a solar-powered electrical system, added a stereo w/ surround sounds, a 12v TV, USB points to charge phones and LED lights, and last but not least, Good Vibrations got a sparkly new paint job!

Big ups to my Gem Visa for helping me with the small and bigger purchases. I used it to buy materials such as timber, paint, vinyl flooring and electrical equipment at Mitre 10; the 12V Freeview TV, stereo and speakers all came from Harvey Norman, and I got it all sorted with Gem Visa’s 6 months interest free on purchases of $250 and over… Easing the blow just enough to pay these items off over time without no interest. Dream result!

All up the campervan renovations cost around $4,000 NZD and now we have a super funky, super safe, adventure beast to cruise around in – all made easier with my GEM Visa.

Any questions about Good Vibrations or the process of van life do not hesitate to ask or slide the DMs via Instagram…
